Popular L Shaped Gaming Desk Ideas

November 7, 2023

If you’ve found yourself browning ‘desk setups,’ you’re here because you noticed a reoccurring component: the L-Shaped Desk. Whether you’re just browsing for some ideas or are ready to jump in, you’re in the right place.

An L-shaped desk offers not only ample space for your essentials but also the flexibility to adapt to various room layouts. It’s a versatile solution for maximizing productivity and organization while adding a touch of sophistication to your space. Throughout this post, we’ll touch upon three options for L-Shaped desks.

During my research for popular gaming desk setups, I found that IKEA is one of the go-to sources for desks in most of my setup-breakdowns. If you’re unsure what I am referring to, check out my Gaming Setup page. I’ll try to provide you with step-by-step instructions and insightful tips to bring your vision to life. Remember, your dream home office setup starts with the essentials.

L-shaped desk ideas the I will be covering in this post:

1. IKEA’s LAGKAPTEN / ALEX & LAGKAPTEN / ADILS (78″)Best for Extra Desk Space
2. IKEA’s LAGKAPTEN / ALEX & LAGKAPTEN / ADILS (55″)Best for Smaller Rooms & Budget
3.IKEA’s MICKEBest for Storage & Shelving
4.FEZiBO L-Shaped BasicStanding Desk Option

Each of the desks I choose in this post are the color white, however, each company provides other tabletop and leg color options. Again, these are desks I was consistently seeing again and again in popular gaming setups.

IKEA’s LAGKAPTEN / ALEX & LAGKAPTEN / ADILS (78″)

First on our list is IKEA’s LAGKAPTEN / ALEX & LAGKAPTEN / ADILS.

LAGKAPTEN / ALEX

Desk, White, 55 1/8″ x 23 5/8″

$164.98

(This desk comes with a tabletop, drawer unit and two legs.)

This is great for adding more storage seeing that the unit comes with six drawers. Even with a 14″ drawer taking up space beneath the desk, that still gives you about 41″ between the drawers and the leg. For comparison, one of the most popular gaming chairs, the Homall Pink Gaming Chair, is 21″ wide, allowing for 10″ of additional space on each side of you. Plenty of room.

Next to this desk, you the place the LAGKAPTEN / ADILS

LAGKAPTEN / ADILS

Desk, White, 78 3/4″ x 23 5/8″

$127.49

(This desk comes with a tabletop and five legs.)

TOTAL COST: $292.47

I recommend this desk if you have the space for it! Let’s think about this: 79″ is about 6.5′. Lay on the floor and add another foot (+/-), and then ask yourself if you have the space.

Steps:

1. Measure your room.

2. Build each of these desks.

3. Move the ADILS desk to the corner of your room so it touches both sides of the corner.

4 .Move the ALEX desk so that it is along the second wall, but is pushed against the ADILS desk.

ProsCons
– Plenty of desk space
– Sophisticated look
– Additional storage space
– Labor of building 2 desks
– Inconvenient location of desk leg that can interrupt smooth work flow

IKEA’s LAGKAPTEN / ALEX & LAGKAPTEN / ADILS (55″)

Next on our list is very similar to the first one, but instead of a 78″ desk, I recommend a 55″ desk to accommodate for standard to smaller bedroom / office sizes.

You will need:

LAGKAPTEN / ALEX

Desk, White, 55 1/8″ x 23 5/8″

$164.98

(This desk comes with a tabletop, drawer unit and two legs.)

LAGKAPTEN / ADILS

Desk, White, 55 1/8″ x 23 5/8″

$89.99

(This desk comes with a tabletop and four legs)

TOTAL COST: $254.97

This is a great L-Shaped desk option for standard sized or smaller bedrooms. It offers extra desk space, as well as storage with the drawer unit without taking up extra space. It is a clean and sophisticated, and more affordable option for anyone looking to expand their home office desk space.

Steps:

1. Measure your room.

2. Build each of these desks.

3. Move the ADILS desk to the corner of your room so it touches both sides of the corner.

4 .Move the ALEX desk so that it is along the second wall, but is pushed against the ADILS desk.

ProsCons
– Additional desk space.
– Sophisticated look
– Additional storage space
– Labor of building 2 desks
– Inconvenient location of desk leg that can interrupt smooth work flow

IKEA’s MICKE

In browsing through cozy gaming setups, I noticed a lot of use of floating shelves and peg boards. I am placing this option here to offer alternative storage and shelving without having to purchase separate shelving units with your desk.

Furthermore, for anyone who may be renting an apartment, you may be familiar with certain landlords being strict about hanging things or nailing holes into the wall. This is a perfect option for my renters because you can create your desk setup without causing any damage to the wall. Feel free to tack things into this desk though!

I introduce to you IKEA’s MICKE.

MICKE

Corner Workstation, White, 39 3/8″ x 39 3/8″ x 55 7/8″

$289.99

Though this is more of a corner desk than an L-shaped desk, I wanted to add this one. The MICKE is convenient to use in a more compact room, or you can add the LAGKAPTEN / ALEX (47″) next to this to create a more L-shaped desk, though you will need a lot of space for this as it will be 86″ long on one side.

ProsCons
– Plenty of shelf space.
– Sophisticated look
– Convenient in smaller spaced rooms
– Labor of building desk
– Not technically an L-shaped desk
– Not as much surface space

FEZiBO L-Shaped Basic

This is a fan must: the standing desk. These have been on the rise since 2020, when everyone went remote, had endless video call meetings, and found themselves tied to the computer. Yes, they were around before 2020, but lets agree they became more popular post COVID-19 lockdown.

I found the FEZiBO to be a well-reviewed standing desk, and felt that any list of desk options wouldn’t be complete without a standing desk. The FEZiBO L-Shaped Basic is a classical L-shaped desk with the standing feature.

FEZiBO L-Shaped Basic

Triple Motor, White, 63″ x 48″

$349.99

At the time I am posting this, the Triple Motor option is on sale for $349.99, compared to its standard price of $499. I would recommend this version over the Single Motor desk, worth $329.99, because it allows for a smoother height transition, working with 3 motors, instead of 1. It takes about 2 hours to build.

A benefit of FEZiBO is that you can select if you want the desk to accommodate to a right dominated hand or left.

ProsCons
– Ample desk space
– Standing desk feature
– No inconvenient desk-leg placement
– Larger desk
– Larger desk
– Storage is an additional cost, just includes the desk.
– Pricey

FINAL COMMENTS

Thank you for checking out my page. Again, there are plenty of L-shaped desk options out there, but I just noticed that a lot of girl gamers are sticking with IKEA, and IKEA’s only ‘L-shaped’ desk is the MICKE. If you find an L-shaped desk you like, send it my way! I would love to keep this blog as up-to-date as possible.

Thanks again!
